NEW SPLIT SINGLE out 2nd February 2009 Featuring the latest track from Chapters and introducing the brilliant Dean McPhee
World in Winter are pleased to present their next 7” split single, featuring the latest track from melodic experimentalists Chapters and introducing the debut release from the brilliant Dean McPhee, solo guitarist and psyche-folk-drone merchant extraordinaire.
The Chapters lads and Dean offer up two contrasting approaches to melody-building, the delicately layered bleeps and bass sounds of The Whiteness of the Whale contrasting with the instinctively shimmering guitar sound of Waterburial, recorded in one take. The split kicks off 2009 for the World in Winter stable.

Elephas album of the week on Sideways Through Sound Radio, 04/10/07
The superb Sideways Through Sound Radio have kindly made the Hotplate EP Elephas record of the week.
Hotplate album released today, 17/09/07
Today sees the release of the brilliant debut LP from Hotplate Elephas, showcasing seven new tracks, beginning with the delicate finger-picking of ‘A Father’s Grip’, before exploring new depths with the epic ‘Requiem’ - recorded live at the Red Deer Club last November – and developing the Hotplate sound into the playful melodies of ‘Sandy-Haired Girl’ and ‘The Drink, The Sound, The Sea'. “Chords tumble over notes which hang desperately in the air before being vanquished by wrought tension. Iain Chambers is a man capable of transcending the trappings of an over-populated genre and edging himself into something else altogether. and by the end of 'Elephas' I am left wondering where he might take us next. Beautiful stuff - highly recommended.” Boomkat

Old school friends Mike Brooks, James Rutledge (Pedro) and Jimmy Wright (ex DOT) unite plenty of disparate sounds on this first EP outing. Pulling the sweet 60s thrums of Van Dyke Parks into a beguiling mix of guitar skronk, kraut folk and industrial steam trains, they create a wholesome and original record.
